Before the Mesa MLK
Committee was
incorporated, a group of Mesa
citizens coordinated the
first Mesa MLK breakfast nearly 25 years ago. The committee
kept the tradition for another 20 years. However, the last
two years years the committee has made a change to
coordinate a Dinner Banquet. This year it will be held at
Mesa Community College in the Navajo Room. In addition to the
support many citizens have given over the years, the
committee is hoping to capture the support of those who
couldn't attend in the past due to a scheduled work day.
We encourage everyone to come out and join the celebration
on Saturday, January 14, 2012.

Building a Better Mesa by
Building Community Spirit
As Dr. King noted in his speech, Strength of Love, we
are the light that must drive out the darkness and the love that
will drive out hate.
So we join the City of Mesa in the quest to build a better
Mesa by continuing the efforts to build community spirit through
the Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration events.
You will experience changes in the events that
supports our goals to bring activities to the downtown area,
assist those in need, and provide more scholarships throughout
the year.

Dr. King's
idea and philosophy
of peace
and
equality.
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness;
only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love
can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence,
and toughness multiples toughness in a descending spiral of
destruction...The chain reaction of evil -- hate begetting hate,
wars producing more wars -- must be broken, or we shall be
plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation."

Jr.
